Blue Eyes and Superstition in My Art

It’s often the small details that have the power to carry profound symbolism. In many of my artworks, I have chosen to give my characters blue eyes.

I have a soft spot for superstitions, but only those with a positive impact. Hey, it’s superstition, so I can make up the rules.

The Evil Eye: A Brief Explanation

The evil eye, or "nazar" as it is called in some cultures, is an ancient superstition widespread around the world. The belief is based on the idea that negative energy or jealousy, emitted by others, can harm the unfortunate target. The evil eye can cause bad luck, illness, and misfortune.

The blue eyes of the 'Counting Sheep' painting series protect the viewer against the evil eye.

The Nazar Amulet as a Symbol of Protection

The Nazar amulet, also known as the "blue eye," has been a symbol of protection against negative influences for centuries.

The bright blue eye with a dark pupil in the center is believed to ward off the evil eye and protect the wearer from misfortune and negativity.

This superstition is known in many cultures.

The blue eyes of the 'Fortunate Butterflies' paintings protect the viewer against the evil eye.

Blue Eyes in My Artworks

The blue eyes in my artworks refer to the Nazar amulet and the protective powers attributed to it. And are meant to offer comfort and protection.

By giving my Fortunate Butterflies, Wishbird, Sheep, and Party Pig blue eyes, I hope to convey protection against all that is ugly to you as you as the owner of my work.
